Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions declines to prosecute the public display of abortion photos
On February 4, 2018 the Irish Center for Bio-Ethical Reform (ICBR) was informed by An Garda Siochana that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has declined to charge or prosecute the public display of abortion photo signs. The decision followed the submission of legal memoranda arguing that these public displays violated neither the Public Order Act or any other prohibition imposed by law. ICBR is gratified to learn that our position has been definitively vindicated and expressive rights will remain fully protected by the Irish Constitution.
Sgt. Gary Gordon, Kilkenny, Ireland police, threatens ICBR director Dr. Jean Englea with arrest, as CBR director Gregg Cunningham looks on. Sgt. Gordon’s criminal referral was later rejected by Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions.
